Eating raw oysters harvested from San Antonio Bay in Texas may make you sick, according to a newly released warning from the Food and Drug Administration. Apparently, more then two dozen people became sick last month with norovirus, (an illness that can cause flu-like symptoms for several days and can be life-threatening for certain individuals) after eating raw oysters from Texas.
Raw oysters are a delicious — but risky — food, especially for those with weak immune systems. There is some evidence that you can reduce your chances of getting sick by eating them with hot sauce. Of course, only heat can completely destroy any dangerous bacteria that may be present in raw foods.
