People who follow the Atkins Diet lose significantly more weight than people on the Zone, LEARN, and Ornish diets, according to a new study from the Stanford Prevention Research Center in California. Researchers also found that people on the Atkins eating plan experienced more improvements in their cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
However, some experts point out that the study may have had some problems. According to Zone Diet creator Dr. Barry Sears, the way people followed the Atkins plan during the study was actually closer to the principles of the Zone Diet. No matter what, the study does help to illuminate the importance of cutting out all sugar and refined carbohydrates — the fundamental rule of Atkins-style eating — from your diet when attempting to lose weight. Do that and you will almost definitely lose body fat while improving your overall health at the same time.
