Can honey kill superbugs?

There is some recent evidence that a special type of honey from New Zealand (called “manuka honey“) may be useful in treating MRSA “superbug” infections, which are becoming a bigger health threat every day due to the over-use of antibiotics.

According to Dr. Rose Cooper from the University of Wales Institute:

“In the past year, honey has become accepted into conventional medicine… When I embarked on this work eight years ago, it was dismissed as an ancient remedy and an alternative therapy. But there have been cases where MRSA has been eradicated from patients’ wounds which have been treated with the honey.”

Honey has been used as a natural healing agent for thousands of years. It would be great if it could provide at least a partial-solution to one of the world’s biggest growing health threats!
