Study: Tylenol can damage the liver, even at recommended doses

The popular painkiller Tylenol (active ingredient acetaminophen) can damage the liver — even when taken at recommended dosages — according to a study recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The study showed that the painkiller can sharply increase liver enzymes (an early sign of liver damage) in healthy adults when taken at the highest recommended dosage.

If you take large amounts of Tylenol (or any other acetaminophen-containing drugs) on a regular basis you should talk with your doctor about cutting back or switching to a different type of painkiller.
