Other SIDS-prevention recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics include:

  • Put infants to bed on their backs
  • Only use firm sleep surfaces and keep soft objects — such as pillows and heavy blankets — out of the crib
  • Give your baby a smoke-free environment — both before and after pregnancy
  • Keep your baby in the parents’ bedroom, but not in bed with you
  • Don’t allow your baby to get overheated — infants should never feel hot to the touch
