New cancer screening technology that combines the power of PET and CAT scans is able to detect cancer and other diseases earlier. Obviously this is great news for anyone worried about cancer as well as current cancer patients trying to control the disease. Doctors say PET/CAT units will be able to lower medical costs by reducing the need for exploratory surgeries as well as unnecessary treatments.
Here’s a statement from Dr. Laurie Loevner, a neuroradiologist at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania:
“We can use this PET/CAT to check for early indications of cancer or to see if the cancer has spread… We can also look to see if a particular therapy has been successful in treating the cancer.”
